Let's play a game, shall we?
This year I'm the class teacher of a 9th grade.
We still haven't been to this year's final trip which is also their last trip to take while they're at our school.
Something special:
A PLACE YOU HAVE ALL HEARD OF.
I'm not telling you any more right now -
just that you are to guess where we are going.
I will answer any of your questions, but only with YES and NO.
To find out where we are from - see some older (but recent) posts.
The first to guess our destination will receive a postcard from there.
I just might decide to send more than one.
I promise it's guessable! Think!
I know, I know!!! :))
ReplyDeleteBut I want more than a postcard :P
Okay, okay, just don't tell anyone! Not just yet!
ReplyDeleteIs it in Europe?
ReplyDeleteYes.
ReplyDeletedisneyland paris
ReplyDeleteNo. We're not travelling so far.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, where are you now? Have looked back a bit and am guessing you are in Slovenia?
ReplyDeleteAre you travelling to St. Petersburg? Or maybe Prague?
Nope. That's also too far. Closer, my dear, closer. And yes, we're in Slovenia.
ReplyDeleteladyfi, are you sure you know where Slovenia is? Maybe you should google it a little.
ReplyDeleteOk, you've got Italy to the west, Croatia to the east and Austria to the north. Are you going to go see the Leaning Tower of Pisa? Or could your destination be somewhere in Austria, say Vienna where parts of the "The Sound Of Music" was filmed?
ReplyDeleteNot Pisa.
ReplyDeleteNo Vienna.
But a good start, Skye!
Hmm, this is a hard one! Thank you for visiting my blog, good to see you. Are you going to the capital city for the day? Ljubljana??
ReplyDeleteNooo, seen that a few times. We ARE going abroad, just not very far.
ReplyDeleteI mean, seen it TOGETHER a few times. It's something quite ordinary to go there. Besides, I wouldn't be too sure everyone has heard of Ljubljana as mentioned in my post. :) But you have (or googled it)! Well done!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I think I need more of a hint. Are you perhaps going to Germany? Or to another border, other than one that I mentioned in my previous guess, Hungary perchance? I'm really at a loss, I don't know much about Europe and what there different countries have to offer. Not only that, not knowing what your school structure is like and the types of things your students are currently studying, well, it's hard to figure out the answer. I suppose I could just continue guessing blindly, but I much prefer making informed guesses!
ReplyDeleteNo,no, you mentioned TWO countries in your first guess, Fine.
ReplyDeleteThe new ones- not so good. And where in ONE of those two would you like to go? And a map can help you. We're not going far.
I'm ashamed of my poor geography skills :(
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear where you're going!
I'm starting to doubt you will... why not use the internet a little, and ask lots of questions? It's not so difficult.
ReplyDeleteOk Ok Minka, sorry for touring around the wrong way...lol. So, if it's either Italy or Austria, I'll wager the Roman Coliseum in Italy is your destination. I'd loooooove to go there!
ReplyDeleteStill too far, but YES, you chose the right country.
ReplyDeleteRoman colosseum is a bit far .. and (unfortunately) it is definitely not that interesting to see, Skye :)
ReplyDeleteIt's closer .... :)
Mind you, we're coming back the same day :)
ReplyDeleteI mean..... the mysterious destination is closer :P
ReplyDeleteOk, now I have to find some decent maps, I really have a huge need to figure out where it is that you'll be going! :)
ReplyDeleteLet me help you a little, you diligent student:

The Crystal Works (or whatever it's properly called) in Vienna would be nice to see as well. All the hand blown crystal, cut crystal, all that lovely work :) But I don't know how world famous that place really is, nor how many people actually know about it outside of Europeans.
ReplyDeleteOoh, there's always Vatican City and the Sistine Chapel! Ok, yeah I know, where you're going is closer than that.
Not to worry, I'm going to do my best with looking things up and finding places to suggest as guesses till I can come up with the right one!
Hahahaaa you're going mountain climbing! The Alps or more specifically perhaps the Dinaric Alps. Yeah, you're right, I got nothin' here.
*shrugs shoulders and goes hunting more info*
Come on... choose a few Italian cities... WELL KNOWN ONES
ReplyDeleteOk, so somehow I didn't see your last reply to me when I posted the reply directly above this one, so, now I know it is indeed in Italy. So saying, I've got your map open on another page Venice or Trieste perhaps? Could it be that you're going to Spinetta Marengo, the Battle of Marengo reenactment which is scheduled for June 14?
ReplyDeleteAh Minka, at least I'm still guessing! Somehow while I'm purusing google search on one page, keeping this page open on another, you keep answering me and I keep missing it till I've posted another reply. But I will keep guessing popular Italian Cities and hopefully one of them will be correct.
ReplyDeleteNext guess would have to be Milan, a lovely tourist destination I believe :)
Vicenza, Trento and Balogna are also popular destinations and I'll leave it at that for now. If none of these latest guesses are correct, than I'll leave the guessing game open for a few hours and let other's have a shot at it. They certainly have enough clues what with all my foibles already :D
ReplyDeleteYes, Skye! So which would it be - Venice or Trieste? Which would you rather see?
ReplyDeleteIf you e-mail me your postal address at minkaminkaminka@gmail.com , I'll send you a postcard frooooom:
ReplyDeleteCome on...
ReplyDeleteVenice!
ReplyDeleteYes!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
Your address, please,, ;-)
What a dramatic thread of comments...I got here just beyond hope of even joining in. But well done, Skye!
ReplyDeleteHow cool! We wanted to go to Venice last year, but the exchange was a killer for us. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteTeri, what do you mean by that?
ReplyDeleteMinka, Venice is the most wonderful place! I've been there six times, and found it more magical each time I went. You will love it, I think. It felt like I was in another place and time; always pinching myself, making sure I was really alive...and breathing. Gosh, I hope you enjoy it and love it as much as I do!
ReplyDeleteI've been there, too. We take our 9th graders there every year. Yes, it's magical. And we take a boat tour to three islands and then have a look at Venice itself. Thanks for your nice wishes - yes, I'm sure I'll enjoy it
ReplyDeleteThank you Jocelyn! And you as well Minka, for giving me such fun and a lesson in geography at the same time :)
