Making the best of my time

I really haven't had much time these days. Today, for instance, I had an English Teachers' meeting. To learn how to evaluate written compositions in our national exams for the 6-th graders. Not for the first time. And I probably (99% sure) won't be evaluating it this year. Okay...

The second part of the meeting was about things you can use in class. Like... the internet .. I've clicked most of those pages and others. And Google notebook... I didn't know about it before ... thanks! And.... AAaaand.... How to start a blog on Blogger. Yeah...

It's half past seven now and I'm tired. And for WHAT?

  1. I had a long discussion with my photography teacher today about how to start digital scrapbooking. The only thing that's weird about that is that she doesn't know how to do it yet.

  2. You're a teacher, for God's sake! I don't know how ANY of you (teachers) manage to blog after working with kids all day. I would have to read The Bloggess 24x7 just to remain sane. You are all to be applauded.

  5. Wow Minka, those topics of conversation seem to be without much use for the classroom. Perhaps I'm wrong, and please forgive me if I am, but isn't computer class for teaching kids things to do with computer? Shouldn't English class be teaching kids all about English? Like literature, pronunciation, spelling, grammar and all that other good stuff that most kids find boring. That's what I always thought English class was about at least, it was, however, my favorite class and the one I excelled in!

  6. Well, in a non-English speaking country you will try to get a authentic material as possible and the internet is usually quite useful for that. Secondly, it is often attractive to the children and my opinion is that, since they will surf it anyway, we'd better give it some useful content. If they like blogging, you can make posts that will intrigue them and let them comment on it, or encourage them to write their own posts. For that Pink Floyd lesson the other day, I also used Youtube which is also good for listening comprehension. Then we use the internet when we want to write a paper on something. At least a few pupils try to copy and paste and that's when they usually learn a little abut plagiarism and find out that the teachers are not as stupid as they (the students) think. Then I make some interactive exercises for them (for grammar mostly) and show them links to some other good websites. And there's more. Not as useless as it seems, Skye...
